5 Tips For Getting Cheap Airfare

Who does not want to travel for a cheaper cost? Practically all of us including those with abundant money want to get on a vacation on the least expense. One of the considerations have always been the cost of airline tickets. Below are some tips to help you get that cheap airfare you are eyeing.

1. Keep an eye on seat sales and airline promos

This is easy. Simply sign up to the mailing list of airlines or like their social media accounts in Facebook and Twitter. They usually send and post upcoming promos every now and then. There are also websites like Piso Fare Promo that is dedicated for forthcoming advertisements.

Seat sales usually start by midnight and lasts for several days depending on the availability of seats. These seats are limited only so make sure you book at once since others will also be flocking the airline’s website. These websites are usually slow at start of a sale and sometimes inaccessible and queuing time may take forever. You can opt to sleep early and wake up at dawn where the traffic is relatively better. The risk here though is that the schedule you are eyeing might be taken already.

2. Watch out your dates

Just like everybody, we book for trips that occur during holidays and long weekends. The trick is to know the schedule of these holidays at least six (6) months ahead since airlines fill up their seats in advance. Less people travel during weekdays, so if you have office leaves to burn, this is right time to use them.

Some dates are rarely on sale when there are public holidays or festivals on your destination. Unless you are flying in for that occasion, I suggest considering other dates in your calendar. Accommodations quickly fill up during festivals so book them as well when you book your flights.

3. Consider Multi-Destination

Sometimes the flight going to your destination or coming back to your origin is the only fare on sale. Seasoned travelers and backpackers remedy this by booking several destinations. You can be adventurous and take the flight back from another airport. I went once on a Southeast Asia backpacking trip. I booked my flight to Singapore and booked my flight home from Thailand. It saved me time and resources rather than getting back to the Philippines from Singapore. I have also tried doing this locally. I booked a flight to Kalibo from Manila and back to Manila via Iloilo City since I wanted to go around Panay Island that time.

4. Check the terms and conditions

Promo fares are usually six (6) months ahead. They are non-re-bookable, non-transferable, non-re-routable and non-refundable. Re-booking fees are also higher aside from the price difference from the day you booked it to the current price. While it is cheaper to book promo fares, it is also more expensive to change your flight schedule a day ahead or later because of unforeseen circumstances. You might want to invest on airline tickets that have the flexibility to be re-booked hours before your flight without additional fees.

5. Read before you click

Pre-selected Choices
Pre-selected Choices

In your rush to get the fare you can live with, you skimmed through the succeeding options. Voila! You still end up getting an expensive ticket. Why did this happen? It is because airline carriers have some tricks on their sleeves. You might have not noticed the pre-selected choices for services that you might not need. These items include check-in baggage allowance, preferred seat, insurance and others. If you are carrying a single bag less than 7kg, then you do not really need that baggage allowance. That is unless you are carrying items that cannot be checked in like liquids, tripod, umbrella, utensils or anything that can be used to hurt someone (check the list of items that cannot be brought in your hand-carry bag). “Haste makes waste!” So READ before you click on that OK button or uncheck these pre-selected choices.

I hope these tips can help you get the cheapest fares. Happy booking!
