Mutya ng Nasugbu 2013 Candidate in Float

It was our second day in Nasugbu. If you were not able to read what happened in our first day, you can read it here: Kakanin Festival. The day started early as the highlight of the celebration, the first Sugbuan Festival commenced at 7:00AM. Each barangay paraded their lovely Mutya ng Nasugbu candidates in their respective floats. Different schools in the elementary and secondary level also had their contingents ready for the festivities.

The parade started from the Nasugbu Park with the floats and contingents going around the streets of the town and meeting again at the park for the start of the street dance competition. However, since there are more barangays than contingents for the festival, things did not go as planned. The support from the Nasugbugueños was overwhelming for the inaugural celebration of their festival. The contingents were full of energy and raring to showcase their interpretation of the festival.

The festival is in honor of Nasugbu's Patron Saint - San Francisco Javier. Though this town is known for its white sand beaches, there is no record how it was discovered. The earliest written date to the founding by the Jesuits of the Parish of St. Francis Xavier in 1852. This festival only had two months preparation upon the initiative of the new mayor to revive the festival that was discontinued more than a decade ago. The objective was to bring a more harmonious relationship among the residents of this town.

The winner of the first Sugbuan Festival - Banilad High School, also won the Best in Street Parade and Best in Costume award. They represented the Nasugbu in the Ala Eh Festival of Batangas and was judged 1st Runner-up. Not bad for a contingent that joined the competition as a first timer. I hope to come back here and expect a more grander street dance competition.
