Ristorante Bigoli: The New Italian in the Neighborhood

Taste the Bigoli DifferenceI love eating pasta and pizza. And so I grabbed the opportunity to dine at Ristorante Bigoli, an Italian restaurant in Eastwood Citywalk, Quezon City. It got its name from a traditional pasta from North East Italy called bigoli, an extruded pasta in the form of a long and thick tube.

The bigoli pasta then were made with buckwheat flour and duck eggs and is now commonly prepared using whole wheat flour. It was created by the extrusion press, called the "bigolaro", that dates back as far as the mid-1400s.

I was impressed by how the receiving counter was designed as I entered the 2-storey pizzeria. The 1st floor is used to welcome customers and to take their orders. The kitchen is also located in the ground floor. Diners then proceed to the second floor to await their meal/s. This setup actually gives customers some sort of privacy. During my visit, I found the place really comfortable and spacious, which paves the way for diners to enjoy their authentic Italian food.

After a few minutes, our appetizers were served one by one. The Parmesan Potato Basket (Php110) is a freshly prepared potato chips tossed in garlic butter and Parmesan cheese for that savory flavor with a crunch. It is served with mayo dip. The BreadStick (Php50 for 6 pieces), which was sprinkled with Parmesan Cheese is freshly baked and was really yummy that we had to get another order. The Ultimate Beef Stromboli (Php140) is rolled pizza with Kitayama Wagyu Beef filling and it is delicious as well. Other variants for the Stromboli are Bacon and Pepperoni at Php130 each.

The pasta dishes were served even before we finished our appetizers. The first pasta dish was the Tour of Italy (Php180), a sampler plate of Spaghetti Bolognese, Fettuccine Alfredo & Lasagna. Next was the Chicken Pasta Bigoli (Php150), an extruded tubular pasta tossed with chicken cubes, chili flakes and Bigoli sauce. Last pasta dish was the Spaghetti Al Pesto (Php155), that has a garlicky basil sauce of extra-virgin olive oil, almonds and walnuts. Of the three dishes, I ate more of the Chicken Pasta Bigoli and I loved the spice added by the chili flakes.

The next platters were sumptuous too. Let's start with the Italian Chicken (Php370 for 6 pieces), smothered in a special sauce of tomatoes, honey, and Italian spices is quite tasty. There was also the Arrosto Di Manzo (Php280), a roasted Kitayama Wagyu Beef covered with Bigoli’s special red wine-gravy, making it tender and savory at the same time. It was served with buttered mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. Finally, Bistecca Macinata (Php230) is a grilled Kitayama Wagyu Burger Patty topped with Bigoli’s savory red-wine gravy, cream and sliced mushrooms. It was served with mixed vegetables with an option for Italian Rice.

We had Stickhouse Gelato (Php80) for dessert, a handcrafted Italian Gelato on sticks and is made of 100% all natural ingredients. I really love ice cream. It is one of my favorite comfort food. But I had to restrain myself from eating too much since I am already getting bigger.

I thought that was the end of our dinner since we were already stuffed. Little did we know that a contest was in store for us and that the Gelato was served to remove the taste of what we ate in preparation for the contest. We were grouped into pairs and were blindfolded. We were given a slice of two (2) different pizzas and we had to identify the ingredients of each one. My partner and I were only able to identify five (5) out of the ten (10) ingredients. The two pizzas are new products that will be launched in the coming days. These are Pizza Capricciosa and Pizza Tropicale.

Pizza Capricciosa is a freshly made dough smothered with Italian pizza sauce and three (3) kinds of cheese topped with mushrooms, black olives, zucchini, sweet ham, Italian sausage, Salami Milano and basil leaves.

Pizza Capricciosa

Pizza Tropicale is a fresh mix of vegetables and fruits, tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, zucchini, black olives and pineapple slices on pesto sauce to make that unique savory taste.

Pizza Tropicale

My overall dining experience is pleasurable. Food is delicious and great value for money. And I forgot to mention that soda and iced tea is bottomless for the price of only Php60.

  1. Bigoli has been one of our faves when we're in a budget but want to get a filling meal. I remember, it's called "Fazoli's" pa in Eastwood before they rebranded to Ristorante Bigoli.

  2. Yes, it was Fazoli's before and they were famous for their unlimited breadsticks :)
