Gigantes Escapade Day 2 - Island Hopping

This is the second day of our trip. In case you missed what happened during the first day, you can read it here: Gigantes Escapade

Parola
Parola

We woke at 4AM to witness the sun rise at the North Gigantes Parola. This 65-meter lighthouse has a a staircase with 72 steps was built in the 1990s.

We played in the century-old Spanish lighthouse as if we were kids who just got out of detention. Most of us climbed on top of the parola while some had photo-ops with the remains of the structure. After an hour, we returned to the inn to have breakfast and prepare for the island hopping.

Bantigue Sand Bar
Bantigue Sand Bar

The sky was still grey as we approach our first stop – Bantigue Island Sandbar. Most of the parts of the sandbar was still in water since it was still early and the tide was still high. The sandbar has a snake-like shape. This island has some residents who are mostly fishermen.

Cabugao Gamay
Cabugao Gamay

Second stop - Cabugao Gamay. (Gamay is the Visayan translation for small). The island has soft-sand beaches in both side and a beautiful rock formation we climbed for this very great view of the island. There are no residents in this island.

Ron

At the background of Ron is Cabugao Daku, which means big.

Nina

We dared Nina to jump but she would not.

Third stop - Antonia Island where we had our lunch with a bucket full of crabs, which didn’t get the photo-ops as everybody were starving already.

Tangle Lagoon
Tangle Lagoon

Fourth stop - Tangke Lagoon is a saltwater lagoon surrounded by limestone rock formations which you have to climb since the boat would not be able to go in.

Jump Shots

Some photo-ops. Take note that Paula, has her mouth wide open (nganga)...

Nganga Shot

The water was still shallow when we got there. Hence, everybody did our own version of the “nganga’ shot.

We went back to Antonia Island to snorkel. The island is similar to Cabugao Gamay except that there are residents here. It also has beaches on both side and a rock formation I climbed. This was a harder climb as the rock formation is steeper and sharper but it was worth it as I can see the whole island and my friends snorkeling from where I was standing

Aside from snorkeling, Antonia also have a lot of caves, but for now only one cave is allowed to be entered by tourist. The way inside the cave was really challenging as we have to crawl in small spaces and sharp rocks. At the end of the cave is another opening where one can jump into the ocean and swim back to the shore or crawl back. We were able to go another cave but we were not allowed to take pictures in the second cave. Is Paula praying for the man of his dreams?

Finally, I have a picture. What do you think I’m praying for here?

Sunset
Sunset

We capped the island hopping with sunset at the back side of Gigantes Island.

Dinner on day 2: baked scallops, fresh scallops, breaded scallops, sizzling scallops, grilled scallops, adobong lagang shell (picture inset), grilled squid, sweet and sour fish, ensaladang talong, watermelon and mangoes...

On the next post, I will write the details of the trip and itinerary to help you for your DIY.

  8. Your blog is the best travel blog I've seen so far :) All destinations make me want to jump out of my office chair and into a fast craft! The only thing I lack is the budget for all these travels I want to go for.

  9. Is the whole island tour can be done in half day and by 2pm balik na to Estancia via a private boat transfer? We want try overnight pero para hindi mag-squeeze masyado pwede kaya kalahatiin both island trips sa itinerary na 2D and 1N.

    1. the island hopping cant be done in half a day, some even take the island hopping for two days. if you can arrive sa estancia by early morning, say 6am, then you can proceed with the island hopping from you private boat. if you plan to get joel, you can also ask him to prepare your food during the island hopping.

i usually have all our meals prepared by them para wala na kami isipin... then again, you can do the DIY.

  10. Does whole day will supply all the time in island hopping and 3D and 2N will be an approriate itinerary? We're coming Roxas City and sayang kasi ang spare time there kung sa Gigantes eh hapon na kami makakadating at hindi na aabot sa island hopping. So we will just use the morning time roaming in Roxas then by 12nn we travel to Estancia to Gigantes via private tour. At least by 3 or 4pm we can still visit the lighthouse or non-island hopping sights to see in Gigantes. On 3rd day siguro ang itin namin is uuwi na by 8am to Estancia. Ayoko din kasi ma-squeeze masyado na itinerary lalo na I want to explore pa for enough time to Roxas City. Plus mas mura quoted package ni Sir Joel for 3D and 2N.

Our trip kasi will be 2 weeks from now na kaya I need more info. Thanks.

    1. you can do the caving in the mainland and go swimming on the other side of the island where you can also wait for sunset, 2 hours ang boat ride plus you can drop by Pulupandan Island which is along the way.

i suggest that you be in estancia by 10am, have your early lunch and buy supplies. i usually buy a 5-gallon water and fruits in the market since di naman kasama fruits sa package ni joel and tap water yata ang tubig (or nasanay lang ako buy 5 gallons just to be sure and safe ang drinking water ng lahat).

sometimes i also buy talong, mango, tomatoes and onions parang gawing ensaladang talong.

      suggested itinerary

      1030H ETA Estancia, marketing
1100H Early Lunch at Paon Beach Club (matagal lang sila magluto pero masarap and ok naman price, pwedeng magpauna na kayo ng tao dun para maluto na food before kayo mamalengke)

      1200H ETD to Gigantes
      1300H Drop by Pulupandan Island
      1315H Proceed to Gigantes
      1430H ETA Gigantes, ride habal-habal
      1440H ETA Gigantes Hideaway,check in
      1450H ETD to caving
      1500H Start of caving
1630H End of Caving, proceed to beach
1645H ETA beach, swimming while waiting for sunset
      1830H Return to Gigantes Hideaway
1845H ETA Gigantes Hideaway, wash up
      1930H Dinner

      day 2

      0430H wake up call
0445H ETD to lighthouse via habal-habal
0500H Start of trek to lighthouse
      0515H ETA Lighthouse, sunrise,photo ops
      0630H Return to Gigantes Hideaway
0700H ETA Gigantes Hideaway, breakfast & prepare for island hopping
      0900H start of island hopping
      1700H sunset at cabugao kamay

      day 3 return to estancia
